Methodological note
The centenarian population provides the semiannual headcount of the population aged 100 years and over residing in Catalonia by sex. The centenarian population figures are obtained from population headcounts and are available for Catalonia, the provinces, the areas of the Territorial Plan and the counties and Aran and the municipalities. For Catalonia, they also provide the centenarian population classified by sex and age up to the group of 105 years and over. From 2012 onwards, it is calculated within the Population Estimates.
On the other hand, for the period 1981–2011 the centenarian population by sex comes from the Centenarian Population Estimate. The figures are calculated from data on deaths and survival rates, they are classified by sex and age up to the group of 105 years and over, and they are available for Catalonia.
